A Cozy Concert in 54th Istanbul Music Festival: Familiar Melodies, Soft Sounds

We supported the organization of the Cozy Concert designed by taking into account the individuals on the autism spectrum as well as the needs of viewers with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, dementia or neurodivergence during 54th Istanbul Music Festival which enables classic music to be enjoyed in a calmer, more natural and freer atmosphere. In this concert format, which offers a more inclusive and accessible listening environment where traditional concert hall rules can be relaxed, practices such as lower decibel levels, soft lighting, reduced audience capacity, and unassigned seating were implemented. The repertoire featured short and familiar pieces, and musicians introduced the works to the audience before performing them. The festival’s Easy-to-Read Accessibility Guide, prepared in line with international standards, enabled all audiences-whether they have accessibility needs or not-to benefit from summary information about transportation to the festival venues, on-site navigation and physical accessibility conditions, as well as the festival program.
